Welcome to Maple Class
Our learning this term has been linked to humans and other animals. We will be visiting a local farm in April and we have been learning about animal groups such as reptiles and mammals. Our animal riddle writing has been a big hit!
Our class readers this term included A first book of Poetry. We looked in detail at a poem about a Chameleon and we have started reading our second book in the series about Rabbit and Bear; The Pest in the Nest!. We have also dipped into fairy tales and we are currently enjoying Nibbles The Book Monster. The children have also loved using Handa's Surprise in PE to inspire their dance work.
In Art we were inspired by the Aboriginal technique of dot painting. We explored four different ways to make the patterns and then produced our own paintings. We have now used this technique to produce our Easter eggs for the Easter service.
Our learning this term has taken us all over the world and we have loved learning and performing a song about the 7 continents. We are currently enjoying a new song that is helping us to learn the names and locations of the 5 oceans!
We have also added some photos of the children enjoying our new reading corner. Our book week learning was inspired by the story "The Day The Crayons Quit!" On the morning of the last day of book week Maple class discovered that all the chairs had quit....they had various complaints! The only way to get them back was for the children to write very persuasive letters to them.
We regularly take out books from our school library too. This has been a great way to encourage the children to read more with friends and family. Plus every Friday afternoon Cedar class now visit Maple to share books with us. We love reading in Maple Class!
Please find below our new class letter for the summer term with details about what the children will be learning.
